The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc. (“JALC”) is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education, and advocacy. From college students to young stars, from working professionals to celebrated masters, we present quality jazz for an ever-increasing audience in an unprecedented range of activities and a variety of venues. JALC has created a dynamic platform where our key constituents – jazz artists (beginner to grizzled veteran), fans (casual listeners to advanced scholars), educators (local band leaders to leading artist-educators) and advocates (local community advocates to important national promoters) – can meet, engage, learn, and work towards common objectives.

Jazz at Lincoln Center seeks a Music Library Assistant, responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the music library. The Library Assistant will in music preparation for JALC concerts and events, archiving projects and other general library functions

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Assist with day-to-day operations of the JALC Print Music Library. Work with the Director Associate Director to execute short-term and long-term goals and projects.
• As directed and needed, input of print music and other media into the library’s custom database utilizing formatting guides for all information within music library entries.
• Create and assist in tracking of paper/digital backups of print music library.
• Assist with execution of all music preparation needs.
• Prepare print music prior to concert and tour rehearsals as needed.
• Assist during rehearsals or concerts as needed.
• Assist in the processing of acquired music collections: inventory materials, create reference copies, maintain originals for transfer to LC archive, and entry into database.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of jazz music and the artists and professionals in the jazz business a plus.
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of Finale and music notation standards.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to learn new software as needed.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently.
• Ability to function as a team player and work collaboratively.
• Ability to work graciously in a fast-paced environment.
• A willingness and availability to work occasional weekends and evenings as required.

While it is a flexible work environment, it is not a remote work environment. All staff work together as a team, Monday through Friday at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s administrative offices at 3 Columbus Circle and at Frederick P. Rose Hall, The House of Swing.
