Genie Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Jackson, Mississippi.

Travel RN – Med/Surg Ortho – 12H Nights

Unit: 5 North – MedSurg Ortho
Shift: 12-hour nights (7p–7a)
Contract Length: 13 weeks 
Guaranteed Hours: 36/week
Charting System: EpicCare Inpatient EMR
Scrub Color: Any solid, professional color
Trauma Level: Level I

  Pay Info

• Fingerprinting Requirement:
  • Remote option: Must allow 10 days before start
  • In-person option: Can be completed at Jackson or Grenada campus the week before start

Unit Details

• Unit Name: 5 North – MedSurg Ortho
• Beds: 31
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
  • Typically 1:5, up to 1:6 depending on acuity
  • Lower ratios for higher-acuity patients
• Patient Population:
  • Ortho, post-op total joints, general med-surg overflow

Requirements

• Certifications Required:
  • BLS (required for all)
  • ACLS (required for Charge RNs only)
• Experience Required:
  • Level I trauma experience
  • Large hospital experience with high-volume surgeries
  • Comfortable with lines and chest tubes
• Drip Titration:
  • May need to start Heparin or Amiodarone (then transfer to cardiac unit)
• Telemetry:
  • All units have telemetry capability
  • Central monitoring station communicates with RNs
• Charge Nurse:
  • Has a light assignment but can take full load if needed
  • Charge nurse present; house supervisor in-house from 3 PM and on weekends

Additional Details

• Aides: Present on all units
• Respiratory Support:
  • CPAP/BiPAP at night, RT support available
  • High-flow available on 2N
• Scheduling:
  • Self-scheduling is allowed where possible
  • Travelers expected to fill open needs
  • Open to block scheduling if available
  • Weekend Option available (not required)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends/month
• Holiday Requirement: Rotate with core staff
• Floating: Required between all MedSurg units, within skillset
  • Higher-acuity patients typically assigned to core staff

Orientation

• First-day onboarding: paperwork, Epic/Omnicell access, tour, scheduling
• 2 precepted shifts for onboarding
