Provide in-office (and potentially off-site) counseling and/or therapy services to the surrounding communities, focusing primarily on the Spanish-speaking community as well as clients of other diverse populations as determined by program and/or contract. Services include individual counseling to adults, children, and families, couples counseling, and group counseling. Clients may be self-referred or referred for services under the agency's various counseling contracts. Counselors must be familiar with and adhere to professional ethics, privacy practices, and Council on Accreditation standards. 

Specific Duties 

1. Participate in all phases of the intake, referral, and assignment process as requested 

2. Complete assessments/evaluations/testing that will form the basis of a client-centered treatment plan. 

3. Develop individual treatment plans and treatment review modifications no less than every 6 months in English and Spanish as applicable. 

4. Provide individual/group/family counseling to children and families referred for service. Services will be primarily provided to Spanish-speaking clientele. 

5. Provides case consultation services as indicated by contract and funding source. 

6. Conduct and prepare client/family assessments in English and Spanish as applicable. 

7. Prepare contact notes (for all interactions), discharge summaries, and progress reports for courts, DCFS, etc., as required by program and funding source, and maintain client case files. 

8. Perform crisis intervention and crisis counseling when necessary. 

9. Participate in agency staff meetings, peer consultation, fundraising activities, and ad hoc committee assignments. 

10. Participate in Community Education and Outreach programs through facilitating, developing, and presenting assigned topics. 

11. Refer clients to ancillary services as needed and record statistical data and scheduling, as required. 

12. Utilize opportunities for professional development and supervision to expand understanding and skills in providing assessment and treatment, as well as in recognizing personal strengths and challenges. 

13. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Hours: Full-time hours with flexibility to meet the needs of children and families 

Position Requirements 

Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or other human service field. Licensed or license eligible in Illinois as indicated by the program. Ability to work some evenings and/or Saturdays, with working from home possibilities. Ability to provide and document therapeutic services in Spanish. Ability to function independently, to coordinate with other professionals, and to synthesize material from a variety of sources. Ability to respond appropriately to the cultural differences present among the agency's service population. Experience with schools, courts, and child protection in DCFS or similar systems is helpful. Meets all applicable employment regulations set by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and other regulatory agencies. 

ADA Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (e.g., during client sessions or documentation). 
  • Ability to move about the office or community environment, including ascending/descending stairs when necessary. 
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment to complete documentation and communication. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing. 
  • Ability to transport self to off-site locations (e.g., schools, courts, client homes) as required by the program. 
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, such as carrying files, laptops, or materials for community presentations.
