Job Description

Overview

Following general supervision, this person will offer ad hoc and/or periodic training sessions for specific equipment and tools in the Dr. Welch Workshop, a makerspace at Penn College. This position is for a welding trainer, with a preference for experience in TIG welding. Schedule is to be determine, 10-15 hours a week.

EDUCATION

• Must be a current Penn College student in good standing. Required

EXPERIENCE

• Two years of experience in makerspace work or two years of coursework in a major directly relevant to the trainings this position will be teaching. Required

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• Demonstrated proficiency in the setup, use, and safe operation of equipment within the Dr. Welch Workshop. Preferred
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and patiently to people of various skills levels. Required
• Awareness of and commitment to safety standards. Required
• Passionate about making and educating others in making. Required

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present training sessions, whether scheduled or on-demand, demonstrating, explaining and teaching safe and correct use of makerspace equipment.
• Assist new users individually on equipment as needed.
• Monitor use of equipment and tools to ensure safe and effective operation by users.
• Provide guidance and direction on users projects as requested.
• Maintain and ensure cleanliness and organization of the space and equipment.
• Alert supervisor to maintenance problems or safety issues with the equipment.
• Alert supervisor when supplies or other items need purchased.
• As assigned by supervisor, design and fabricate items requested by faculty or staff, including display projects for the makerspace.

$12.00 per hour.
