What's the job? The content creator will be an integral part of the marketing team, reporting to the Content Manager. The ideal candidate will be the ultimate storyteller, culture and tone setter and passionate marketer who loves creating and deploying authentic social media content in native formats for each channel including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, our Blog and more. High quality content creation is pivotal to our business in showcasing and bringing our summer programs to life. From on-campus pre-college academic experiences in the classrooms with hands-on learning opportunities to, dorm life, activities both on and off campus, trips around town, to the beach, amusement parks, local cities landmarks and more. Your goal is to showcase the profound and enriching experiences students have at Summer Discovery programs and the content should resonate with both students and parents, reflecting the essence of the Summer Discovery brand.
The content creator will design, develop, implement, track and optimize our digital social media campaigns and content. The content creator may assist, as needed, in producing content for offline channels such as printed collateral, emails and flyers. It is critical that while the primary responsibility will be social media, the content creator is also flexible to design content for all marketing channels as stated. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of current content trends, especially as they relate to the latest social media trends and traction, and know the tips and tricks to maximize reach.
The ideal candidate will have excellent creative design, verbal, and written communication (copywriting) skills. They will create captivating content and author copy using tools like Canva and Lightroom. This role involves producing fresh, professional, and fun original content, suggesting creative ways to attract more prospective clients, growing followers, increasing engagement, and implementing and maintaining digital marketing initiatives, all while supporting broader marketing and business goals.
Summer Discovery is a growing company with a seasonal business, so flexibility and the ability to pivot will be important to support our summer programs. The ideal candidate will be detailed-oriented, self-motivated and work hard with a desire to visit and support our summer programs. We are looking for someone who lives in the NY/NJ metro-area and works in a hybrid work model and is flexible commuting 2-3 days a week, as needed to NYC or Long Island.
There is a travel requirement for this role of up to 6 weeks of travel during the summer months to capture content at our program locations.
Essential Functions - Develops content for social media including ideation, design, copywriting and posting to the proper social channels aligned to the company content calendar.
- Creates and maintains detailed monthly and annual social content calendars.
- Curates and creates engaging text, image and video content for digital channels.
- Produces and edits videos to create reels and content for social channels, leveraging content and b-roll shot during the summer.
- Works across teams to support channel marketing efforts through digital and social channels.
- Manages community engagement and suggests new tactics to increase followers and engagement across social channels.
- Monitors and reports on feedback from social followers.
- Assess the competitive landscape to understand what others in our industry are doing as well as identify potential content collaborators and influencers.
- Brainstorms new and creative growth strategies.
- Ability to be on-camera if needed to narrate, or do a walk-through for a reel or video
- Collaborates with agencies and other vendor partners where needed.
- Other duties as assigned - specific to role focus or departmental needs.
- Responsible for travel for up to 6 weeks during the summer months.
Qualifications - 2+ years of experience in content creation, social media, email and digital marketing
- Ability to present a social media portfolio with sample work
- Bachelor's Degree in marketing communications, journalism or relevant field
- Solid understanding of social media analytics and tracking
- Ability to create and deploy their own content using Canva, social media scheduling tools like Spout Social, and Lightroom (Photoshop/InDesign a plus but not required)
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and able to multi-task
- Experience with social media management and optimization platforms
- Graphic design and photo editing skills a plus
- Ability and desire to travel to summer programs between late June - early August to capture original, authentic content

The pay range for this role is:
55,000 - 62,500 USD per year (Roslyn, NY)
