The 5 Kidd Renal Oncology unit is a 32 patient bed unit with two unique patient populations: Renal Medical and Medical Oncology. We work closely with the physicians, oncologists, advanced practice providers, case management and pharmacy teams to provide excellent and safe patient care.

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care, including the administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

• Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate. Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Document and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
• Assess patients for expected side effects and has knowledge of how to handle them. Observe for allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to the drugs and takes appropriate action.
• Practice safe handling of cytotoxic agents, including any spills.
• Draw blood samples and is an expert in the use of Triple lumen catheters, PortaCath, Hickman, Groshong, and PICC lines, and several types of programmable pumps. Troubleshoots problems with these technologies.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Certification specializing in Chemotherapy credentialed from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.

Additional Preferences

• Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.
• Chemotherapy experience preferred.
• RN experience within the last 12 months preferred.
