Job Description

Summary:

The SR Regional Plant Engineer has responsibility for the identification, design and management of capital projects with typical values ranging from $50M to $5MM. Periodically serves as a team member for larger strategic growth projects. This is a key role in identifying and leading process improvement opportunities and working with the plant management and operations to improve plant capacities and efficiencies. Services up to sixteen plant locations across the North America region.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Promote and demonstrate the Potters' operating philosophy of health and safety, environmental regulatory compliance, commitment to customer quality, and productivity, cost control, and asset management within an environment of continuous improvement and respect and care for all personnel.
  • Responsible for identifying and leading production and process improvement opportunities and identifying ways of improving plant capacities and efficiencies.
  • Oversee plants' mechanical, electrical, and automated systems; Identify, scope, design, and manage capital projects ranging from $50M to $5MM; Work with plant management and operations to lead process studies using Six Sigma and DOE principles.
  • Lead the installation, implementation, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Control systems
  • Ability of leading PLC installations and implementation of capital projects as well as providing general automation plant support.
  • Provide engineering services and support at base location and multiple facilities across North America.
  • Analyze process systems and implement simple, yet effective changes to increase production in coordination with management and operations
  • Design, install, and troubleshoot industrial dust collection systems; Identify, specify, and install industrial combustion systems
  • Assist plants with process instrumentation and controls
  • Manage all aspects and disciplines of capital projects from beginning to end
  • Actively promote Potters' vision, mission, and values with employees, vendors, and contractors
  • Review and continuously evaluate production technology; Help plants manage monitor and maintain production equipment as needed
  • Upgrade to new technologies when repairing or replacing equipment; Help improve efficiencies and increase production rates
  • Remains in compliance with corporate and plant policies and procedures. Encourage a teamwork environment in plant facilities.
  • Multitask and deal with more than one problem or project at a time. Be a technical specialist for each facility, exploiting new engineering technologies they may have not considered
  • Provide technical advice and support to resolve unusual problems. Communicate information relating to project needs and technical requirements. Interact daily with the site operations and maintenance teams, contractors, and support other engineers as needed
  • Encourage and support professional development with employees; Help meet corporate engineering annual budget goals; Provide leadership to implement corporate as well as plant programs and initiatives

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Required

Master of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Preferred

5+ years Engineering experience in a Manufacturing Environment

Hands on experience with CAD, Required

Position requires 30%-50% travel

Interpersonal Skills with Employees, Contractors, and Vendors

Experience with Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls

Experience managing capital projects from beginning to completion

Working knowledge and familiarity with OSHA and NEC regulations

Working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance

Familiarity with continuous quality improvement tools, techniques, and methods such as SPC, DOE, etc

Office environment approximately 75% of the time and manufacturing plant environment approximately 25% of the time.
