President and CEO President and CEO St. Paul, MN Esperanza United was established in 1982 by a group of dedicated Latina activists who recognized the need for emergency shelter services for Latinas experiencing domestic violence, to address the barriers to access posed by mainstream domestic violence organizations. Its work continues to be grounded in community strengths and wisdom, as it serves Latinas locally and nationwide. The organization’s programming leads to greater safety, enhanced community connectedness, and increased advocacy for Latina communities. The next President and CEO of Esperanza United will be a proven and effective leader with a passion for the mission and experience serving as a catalyst in fulfilling an organization’s vision with a community-centered lens. This individual will bring leadership characterized by a visionary and strategic outlook, the ability to garner broad Latina community and donor support, the ability to increase the visibility of the organization locally and nationally, and the ability to continue building relationships and partnerships in support of the organization’s mission. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to advance a clear vision that outlines the local commitment in relation to the national role of the organization. This new leader will lead a discussion across the Board, staff, and key stakeholders both local and national to outline the vision and assess key pathways to build a strategy that clearly defines its role and identity. The leader of Esperanza United has the opportunity to build a strong infrastructure that supports the expanded organization, enhances staff retention and engages a broad range of local and national donors and supporters in its mission. They will expand local leadership to build a stronger and even more effective bench to support the work locally in Minnesota while continuing to grow the national and potentially international presence. Working with the board, the CEO also has the opportunity to build and grow the board to include wider national representation. Esperanza United seeks candidates who have served in a senior-level, executive role with a mission-driven organization of similar or larger national entities in Latina communities. It seeks an experienced leader to help lead and navigate change in response to the growth and opportunities of the past several years. The ideal candidate's background is highlighted by a track record of high-level operational expertise; business acumen; exceptional written and verbal communication skills in multiple mediums; aptitude for public speaking; and success in fundraising. Fluency in Spanish is required. Key qualities that the next leader will possess are humility and a sense of humor, empathy, perseverance, and curiosity. The ideal candidate will bring empathy and positivity yet will be able to manage conflict. This leader will be steady, optimistic, approachable, and calm. They will persevere through challenges and unexpected roadblocks when they arise. Given the difficult nature of Esperanza United’s work, the ideal leader must listen well, as well as have compassion for survivors and their families, for staff, and for self.
