Overview Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality. At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Responsibilities The Lin Lab at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary group studying cancer functional genomics. We use a combination of multiplexed CRISPR screening, deep learning modeling, and statistical methods to reveal the causal functions of genomic mutations in driving tumor aggressiveness. We have recently developed advanced high-throughput CRISPR screening integrated with computational modeling and large-scale clinical genomics data, giving us new power to uncover the genomic epistasis in determining cancer recurrence, identify novel inflammaging regulators across organs. Current projects use cutting-edge clinical genomics technologies, CRISPR screening approaches and AI-driven computational tools and we work closely with local collaborators at Fred Hutch to get access to patient sample repositories. We are building on this strong computational program by implementing wet-lab operations in a fully renovated laboratory space in the Lake Union Steam Plant Building. Steam is home to 23 laboratories consisting of 275 experts in computational biology, data science, and immunotherapy who use cutting-edge technologies and tools to revolutionize cancer treatment. We work in an interdisciplinary team environment with many local and external experts. We welcome candidates eager to harness or advance these multi-disciplinary tools to illuminate fundamental questions in cancer genomics and identify translational biomarkers/assays for translation. Projects will be tailored to the candidate’s strengths and interests, with multiple creative, high-impact directions available, such as genomic epistasis, inflammaging in cancer, and population-level genotype-environmental interactions in genomics regulation. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with computational expertise with strong background in deep learning tool development to build interdisciplinary projects. Applicants with deep skills in wet lab expertise who are motivated to expand into the dry lab domain are especially encouraged. The position will require both independent research as well as the ability to collaborate closely with colleagues. The position will be supported by V foundation and NIH Maximizing Investigators' Research Award. More information on the Lin lab can be found at Responsibilities Engineer and develop novel CRISPR-based gene regulation and genome editing tools Design and execute multiplexed CRISPR screening experiments and generating high-throughput bulk/single-cell functional data Apply cutting-edge clinical genomics technologies on cancer sample cohorts Present and prepare results for publication Work collaboratively within the Lin Lab and with Fred Hutch and external collaborators Apply for postdoctoral fellowships and/or career development awards Deeply engage with their scientific problem and drive project direction Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) with expertise in molecular biology, bioengineering and omics approaches to study genomics function Strong interest in learning or developing high-throughput CRISPR screening or genomic sequencing Motivated and organized, work independently while also enjoy in energetic, collaborative, and multidisciplinary teams
