Summary of Role:

At GHJ, our Tax Practice is comprised of over 100 professionals, the majority of whom have post-graduate degrees in tax, law or business and have previously worked with international accounting firms. Our dedicated tax team is specifically trained in dealing with complex tax issues for privately held businesses and high net worth individuals, including federal, state and local tax strategies, tax credit maximization, estate planning and international matters. We work with our clients to find appropriate solutions to maximize tax benefits and savings, providing sophisticated advice tailored for each client.

You will be responsible for:
  • Overview: The International Tax Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of US international tax-related compliance and consulting engagements. The International Tax Manager should be able to manage most small and medium-sized international tax compliance engagements independently as well as collaborate with general tax team members to supervise international tax compliance.
  • Perform technical tax review and approval of international tax related returns and governmental tax examinations of reasonable complexity.
  • Assume full responsibility for medium to large international tax related returns and delegate to the various tax preparers, as deemed necessary.
  • Delegate, manage, and perform international tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient deliverable.
  • Participate actively in client meetings and international tax planning efforts
  • Act as a resource for tax preparers/specialists and Accounting & Auditing teams and Consulting teams on international tax issues and/or questions.
  • Assume client service responsibility for clients the international tax manager is assigned to work with directly or clients where the responsibility is delegated from the senior manager or partner.
  • Communicate to the appropriate firm personnel important international tax developments affecting the firm's clients.
  • Prepare, review, or supervise US international tax related forms, such as Form 5471, 8865, 8858, FBAR, 1120-F, 5472.
  • Prepare or review the Streamlined Procedure and other related program submissions.
  • Assume responsibility for smooth flow of international tax related tax returns through the tax preparation system to ensure accurate, complete and timely preparation and delivery of all clients’ tax returns.
  • Possess complete knowledge of the firm's philosophy and its opinions on tax matters.
  • Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible international tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate and our clients.
  • Participate in firm's practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.
  • Take an active role in the proposal process with respect to international tax matters and present to prospective clients.
  • Responsibility for engagement profitability - billings and collections.
  • Participate in firm's and / or department committees.
  • Proficient in use of computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs.
  • Become a part of the firm's Mentoring Program.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

What skills & experience you’ll bring to us:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related equivalent, as well as CPA or Enrolled Agent certification is required
  • 4+ years of experience in taxation of which 1-2 years of experience was in a general tax team of a public accounting firm
  • Tax experience to include 3+ years of experience performing international tax research and providing quality international tax technical advice, as well as preparing or reviewing US international tax related compliance engagements.
  • Masters of Science degree in Taxation or a J.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills, as well as to maintain license requirements.

GHJ complies with all local/state regulations in regards to displaying salary ranges. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, ranges, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications (e.g. JD, technology), for example. At GHJ, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $130,000 - $165,000.
