Global Arts Live - General Manager, 585 Arts Global Arts Live is seeking a General Manager for 585 Arts, a new performing arts center in Cambridge, MA. The role oversees the business aspects of the new venue, leading its launch and day-to-day operations. Reports to the CEO and works with the Global Arts Live and 585 Arts leadership teams. Base pay range $135,000.00/yr - $145,000.00/yr Organization Global Arts Live, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a vibrant nonprofit arts presenter dedicated to celebrating the world’s music, dance, and performance traditions. Since its founding in 1990, the organization presents more than 60 performances annually in venues ranging from 250-seat clubs to 3,500-seat theaters, primarily in Boston, Somerville, and Cambridge. The organization connects local audiences with artists from more than 70 countries and launches 585 Arts, a new center designed for dance, music, and other genres. The temporary and permanent occupancy milestones are January 2026 and April 2026, with grand opening on September 19, 2026. Global Arts Live collaborates with neighborhood organizations, civic partners, and cultural groups to expand community engagement. Position Summary The General Manager, 585 Arts, will oversee the business aspects of a new performing arts center, leading its launch and day-to-day operations. This includes managing earned revenue and expenses, developing the venue’s reputation in the community, and nurturing key relationships with partners. This role is part of the combined Global Arts Live and 585 Arts leadership team and reports directly to the CEO. The GM will supervise a staff of approximately 13 in the production and audience services teams and will work with external partners including artists, renters, landlords, service vendors, Brighter Boston, and other nonprofits. Roles And Responsibilities 585 Arts Launch: finalize planning to launch the new complex, design robust operation systems, policies, and workflows; coordinate plans with landlord/property management to open the venue; manage launch timelines and milestones; ensure compliance with laws and insurance requirements. Recruitment: complete recruitment and hiring of venue personnel, including backstage and front-of-house staff. Rental Business and Financial Administration: establish and monitor cost recovery models and fee structures; lead rental program communications to attract clients; develop scheduling, event coordination, service agreements, and vendor management systems; partner with finance to budget and track earned income and expenses. Venue and Operations Management: supervise production and audience services directors; oversee daily operations and calendar management; manage building systems, maintenance, vendor relationships, and safety/compliance procedures. Welcoming Environment: deliver exceptional experiences for artists, renters, audiences, visitors, interns, and staff; promote accessibility and a welcoming environment; maintain a visible presence at performances. Community Relations and Engagement: embody 585 Arts’ community mission; coordinate free rentals for local artists and organizations; oversee paid internships with Brighter Boston; gather feedback to refine operations; develop partnerships with community groups. Staff Leadership and Organizational Culture: participate in senior leadership planning; establish effective communication systems; support staff development with an equity-centered approach. Qualifications Five to eight years of progressive experience in venue management and operations; strong leadership in a multi-stakeholder environment; expertise in earned income strategies, operational systems, event logistics, financial oversight, and vendor coordination; experience managing cross-functional teams and capital projects; familiarity with event and rental software; commitment to equity, access, and inclusive leadership. Ability to work in Cambridge with regular in-person time, including evenings and weekends. Compensation And Benefits Exempt, senior-level, full-time position with salary range $135,000 - $145,000, commensurate with experience.
