The Position:  

The EHS Manager will foster a culture of proactivity, accountability, engagement and sustainability through robust programs and processes with the primary goal of reducing losses and liability throughout multiple locations. This key role will lead Health & Safety matters to ensure the company meets or exceeds legislative, corporate and industry requirements, as well as best practices standards. 

Roles and responsibilities  

• Develop and implement a safety-oriented strategy across the region and measure, report and achieve key metric goals.
• Develop specific health and safety objectives and create action plans to meet those objectives. 
• Develop strong trusting relationships to gain support and achieve results. 
• Effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address competitive, complex business issues.
• Manage multiple conflicting priorities. 
• Maintain, review and report safety performance. 
• Identify opportunities for improvement, along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required. 
• Work with regional leadership teams to ensure all key safety operational controls are in place and the safety action items are resolved on a timely basis. 
• Create a proactive approach to safety excellence through cross functional cooperation, communication, and training.
• Develop and/or coordinate safety training and training tools.
• Integrate and partner with business leaders to promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and regulatory compliance. 
• Oversee internal health and safety audit actions to ensure regulatory compliance. 
• Manage implementation of site-specific health and safety programs to ensure regulatory and corporate standards are effectively integrated into standard operating procedures. 
• Provide Safety Policy guidance and interpretation to field management when appropriate. 
• Ensure countermeasures are properly identified to prevent reoccurrence by utilizing a robust incident investigation process. 
• Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with Safety Team and Senior Safety Manager to develop solutions, programs, and policies. 
• Provide strategy in the development or deployment of a behavior-based safety program. 
• Ensure timely coordination of all regulatory or Company required testing and training, including industrial hygiene testing. 
• Maintain Safety Information System records and compile reports from database. 
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Required skills:  

• 5 + years in Safety field, preferably in heavy manufacturing, mining and/or heavy construction with degree or 10 plus year of experience in the construction industry with no degree.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, consulting, conflict resolution, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. 
• Strong skills in building interpersonal relationships, including a high degree of judgment, diplomacy, and ability to influence others.
• Possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of regulatory standards. 
• Ability to drive decision making process to conclusions/solutions. 
• Excellent client management and business literacy skills. 
• Ability to interact with employees at all levels and train large groups.  
• Self-directed and motivated.
• Take initiative to identify and anticipate organizational needs and make recommendations for implementation. 
• Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record. 
• Location: This role is based in the Appleton area and supports projects throughout Northeast and Central Wisconsin, including the Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michigan. Role requires travel to various sites across the region, with occasional overnight stays (approximately 5% annually).

Preferred Qualifications  

• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP). 
• CMSP (Certified Mine Safety Professional). 
• Knowledge of OSHA 1910 & 1926  and MSHA Part 46 rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of all other applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations. 
• Knowledge of MSHA regulations.
• OSHA 500 certification.  
• First Aid/CPR certified.

Additional Notes  

• The use of hands and fingers to handle or touch objects, tools, equipment, or controls 
• Talking and hearing in a standard office environment, heavy repair shops, testing laboratories, material production plants, and mining operations.  
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. 
• Moderate noise and visual distractions 
• Substantial computer work is performed daily, requiring several hours of screen vision as well as keyboarding and use of mouse. Long periods of time spent sitting. 
• Substantial drive time requiring long periods of time spent sitting.
