A full-time Curatorial Assistant position, reporting to the Museum's Engell Speyer Family Senior Curator and Associate Director of Curatorial Programs, is available. The incumbent will assist the curator with scholarly projects and exhibitions as well as a variety of tasks related to institutional projects. Excellent research and writing skills are required.

Curatorial Assistant responsibilities include :
  • Assisting in planning, research, organization and installation of exhibitions, interdisciplinary projects, and performances 
  • Assisting with catalogues and other publications, both print and digital 
  • Researching artists for curatorial projects and acquisitions 
  • Writing didactic labels, press releases, and other copy related to exhibitions and performances 
  • Serving as liaison with Curator’s contacts, including artists, donors, and gallerists
  • Providing overall administrative support, including drafting correspondence and presentations 
  • Providing additional support for acquisitions for the Whitney’s permanent collection, including coordination with Conservation, Registration, and Documentation departments 
  • TMS data entry 
  • Providing general clerical support to Curator, including expense reimbursements, calendar management and travel arrangements 
  • Other tasks as needed to support the work of the Curatorial Department 
Other duties include :
  • Conducting research into institutional program history 
  • Organizing and drafting correspondence and presentations for working group meetings 
  • Acting as the liaison and coordinator between the Lichtenstein Studio, the Museum, the artists and/or scholars in residence, and external vendors as appropriate. 
  • Other administrative tasks as needed 
Job requirements :
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of and interest in 20th- and 21st-century art and art history 
  • 2 years of museum, gallery or relevant experience 
  • BA required; MA preferred 
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including experience with TMS, Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines 
  • Some knowledge of exhibition preparation procedures is useful 
  • The incumbent has demonstrated the capacity to take initiative, work as a member of a team and meet deadlines.
