ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR
The Plano Symphony Orchestra (PSO) announces an opening for a two-year position (with a possible extension for two more years) beginning March 2022
The Plano Symphony Orchestra seeks a talented and dynamic assistant conductor who will assist the PSO Music Director and serve as cover conductor for the Music Director and guest conductors for all orchestra services. The assistant conductor will participate in education, family, and community concerts in addition to other conducting and administrative duties as specified by the Music Director. Candidates must possess meaningful orchestral experience, a broad knowledge of orchestral and concert programming and be fluent and articulate in English with an ability to communicate effectively with young and mature audiences. The candidate must be willing to reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and be eligible to work in the US.
Responsibilities
Assist and provide support to Music Director and all guest conductors
Serve as cover conductor for the Music Director and all guest conductors
Collaborate with the Artistic Committee and Director of Education in programming of education and community concerts
Conduct the PSO in education and other concerts as requested and assigned by the Music Director
Lead the PSO Youth orchestra when and if created
Other duties as specified by the Board of Directors/ Music Director, which may include cover and conducting duties in other orchestras directed by Music Director.

About the Plano Symphony Orchestra
The Plano Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional orchestra that touches the lives of over 190,000 North Texans annually in the city of Plano and surrounding communities. The PSO and internationally acclaimed Hector Guzman, Music Director, are known for their versatility, offering unique, fun and exciting concert experiences that combine the best in classical music, Broadway, pops and jazz. The PSOs education programs affect the lives of up to 40,000 students each year including school concerts that incorporate studies aligned with school curriculum. Yearly, The PSO performs eight regular subscription concerts, a Patriotic Pops concert, six smaller family concerts, and ten to twelve school concerts. In addition, the PSOs education program offers a Scholarship Program for underprivileged students, the Collin County Young Artist Competition, and music therapy programs (Healing Notes) for dementia and memory care patients.

Application and Audition Procedure:
Individuals should submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three professional references. Candidates are also required to submit a current video-recorded work sample (at least two contrasting repertoire styles) on a high quality North American formatted DVD. Video should include a close front-view perspective of either a rehearsal or performance with full symphonic or large chamber orchestra ensemble.
All materials must be received by December 31, 2021. Initial applicants will be notified by January 30, 2022 if they have been selected as finalists.

Candidates will be asked to introduce each piece before performing.
Up to five finalists will be invited to conduct the PSO and interview with the audition committee on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 4 pm. Venue to be determined. All travel accommodations, meals or related expenses are the sole responsibility of each candidate. The new assistant conductor will start his/her duties as soon as possible.
